In an update to the previous post "New Year Revelry or Plain lack of Caution!", the Mumbai Police have swooped down on the criminals who are all below 20 years of age. They were not only molesters but also thieves! They were arrested with the young woman's mobile phone which will now enable the police to locate the lady quickly.

Take a good look at the photograph, the young pervert who thought he was never going to get caught. Instead, all the while he was being caught on camera. He was caught on camera again , but this time inside a police van on the way to court. He is still wearing the same shirt he was seen in the first picture (circled in green).

A new form of Candid Camera Justice! Hats off to Mid Day and their staff for doing their bit of responsible journalism! And a warning to all criminals, "You are being watched!"

The Mid Day also issued a statement which is being pasted below with the links to the article on the newspaper website.

MiD DAY says
By: A Mid Day Correspondent
January 5, 2007

Four days after MiD DAY published pictures of a girl getting molested at the Gateway of India on New Year’s Eve, the police have arrested three people.

The photograph indicates, and the photographer who took the picture verifies, that it was a group of around 60, who seemed to be making the most of the situation.

Will arresting three wipe off the blame of 57 others who were part of the crime that day? Or should we be pleased that we have at least brought to book a few, considering that searching for a group of 60 in Mumbai is like searching for a needle in a haystack.

The parents of the boys swear that their wards are innocent and the boy themselves said that they were ‘actually helping the girl’ who was being molested. The truth will unfurl days from now.

Ironically, the three arrested are in for stealing a mobile for want of a proper complainant and complaint.

The media has played its watchdog role and the police had done its bit of reining in the alleged culprits.

Now, it is for the girl who was molested and her male companion to come forward and seal the case. If they do that, women in Mumbai can think of celebrating the next New Year’s Eve in peace.

perhaps the capture of 3 cannot make up for the crimes of 60 but still...it is definetly commendable that even those 3 could be aprehended...Hooray for Mid-day!

It really is a New Year for Mid-day!!! Hope more of those 60 perverts get arrested. May 2007 be the year of justice for the victims of the innumerous crimes being commited in India every moment! It is people like Rizwan and the Singh brothers (the one's who killed numerous children in UP for no reason!) that need to be given an 'eye for an eye'!!

Btw I like the new look of your blog! ;-)
