What's a Camel worth?

Pic by Abdul Rahman/Gulf News

A wierd or funny question indeed! What's a Camel worth? Will the cost of the Ship of the Desert be worth the price of a yatch?

The camel seen in the picture standing with an auction official, had a price tag of Five Thousand Dirhams (Roughly $1360 or Indian Rs. 62,554 ) to start the auction. The camel was from a prize winning bloodline and with camel racing being a popular sport in the Gulf - there were many to bid. When they called the camel the "Ship of the Desert", never imagined it might actually cost a small fortune to buy a camel.

The camel, a grandson of prize-winning UAE camel Jabbarwas auctioned for Dh2.5 million on Tuesday, which translates into roughly $ 680,661, or Indian Rupees 31,376,449.

Only the race tracks will prove if the camel was worth the millions and if the prize winning genes have been passed down.
