Littering? Where? Who? When?

A quick update to my previous entry - The Price of Littering! The incident is worthy of TV soap operas, the punisher has become the accused and the litterers seem to have become the innocent victims!

Today the Gulf News reported: "The military officer who stopped a school bus to make 30 pupils walk home as punishment on Monday was detained by Sharjah Police that evening and his case has been referred to public prosecution for further investigation."

Accusations and the blame is become like the game "pass the parcel" between the school, the students. their parents and not to forget the army officer. This looks like one case that will take its own time to be solved.

However, one of the student's mother was quoted as "Describing the act as "irresponsible" she said the officer should be reprimanded and disciplined, but did not support punishment. What was important, she added, was that he realised that he had done something wrong."

Some how in all this furore, the main cause of the whole incident - "littering" has been forgotten! Then again why blame society or parents for not holding the kids responsible for the incident? I agree the official might have gone overboard but why forget the litter bugs?

“We are taught you must blame your father, your sisters, your brothers, the school, the teachers - you can blame anyone but never blame yourself. It's never your fault. But it's always your fault, because if you wanted to change, you're the one who has got to change. It's as simple as that, isn't it?” ~Katharine Hepburn (American actress)
